Ray's Ph.D. is in Physics from the world-renowned Institute of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Ray is a leader in discovering and studying novel quantum states of matter such as superconductors that are of tremendous significance to the energy sector and technological innovations such as quantum computers. As a fellow at Princeton University and Caltech, Ray pioneered techniques to study rare fluctuations in non-equilibrium and quantum phenomena that are applicable to systems as diverse as financial markets, heat flow in carbon nanotubes and cancer.
